Mindanao Polytechnic College (MPC) is a maritime school located at the junction of the National Highway and the Makar-Koronadal Road, about 7 kilometers from downtown General Santos City, Philippines. It is the city’s premier school for nautical and marine engineering courses, and lately, of HRM courses (maritime-based).

History

The year 1980 saw the birth of the new educational institution in General Santos City. Conceived several years earlier the idea was finally brought into realization by the founder, Capt. Arturo A. Aguilar, M.M. propelled by his strong desire and noble purpose to provide education to the youth, Capt. Aguilar, competently assisted by his wife Susana, established Mindanao Polytechnic School in February, 1980. Capt. Aguilar, a master mariner by profession and a former Harbor Pilot of the Port of General Santos City and Mrs. Aguilar, an education graduate and business entrepreneur combined their talents and resources to give rise to the only maritime school in the SOCSKSARGEN area which is one of the growth centers in Southern Mindanao. During the initial year of operation, the school rented two separate buildings in downtown area in General Santos City. in June 1981, the school transferred to its new campus at Crossing Makar. Consisting of three hectares of land the campus is quiet, cool, pollution - free and conducive to learning. The school eventually gained prominence in 1981 when the prestigious Philippine Association of Maritime Institutions (PAMI) accepted Mindanao Polytechnic School (MPS) as a full - pledged member. In the same year, MPS President Capt. Aguilar was also elected as one of the officers of PAMI. The school also became a member of the Philippine Association of Private Technical Institutions (PAPTI). The Mindanao Polytechnic School was changed to Mindanao Polytechnic College in 1984. As a manifestation of its imminent expansion towards global competitiveness, MPC offers courses that attract thousands of enrolles. These courses provide better employment opportunities here and abroad. Thus, MPC became popular in Southern Mindanao. MPC, as part of its commitment to quality education, was certified by an internationally renowned maritime accrediting agency of Norway, Det Norske Veritas (DNV) in compliance with the regulations of the Commission on Higher Education on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers. Now on its 26th year of operation, MPC still sustains its quest for quality education. Mission Mindanao Polytechnic College is genuinely concerned with the total development of the human person. through a well integrated educational program of instruction, research and community involvement, it is committed to attain the ideals of excellence which are responsive to the challenges of nation building and global competitiveness.
